COMPRESSION TEST OF CONCRETE CUBE VS CYLINDER TEST.
.COMPRESSION TEST.The concrete is more strong in compression.Therefor, this is tested by the compression Test of concrete.It is of great importance .Compression Test of concrete is performed in two ways .One of these is called Cube Test while the other is called Cylinder test.The specimen for these two tests are of different types.As is suggested by the names the specimen for the Cube .Test is like the cubes and that for the cylinder test is prepared in the shape of cylinders.There is difference in the results of these two tests.These are compared with the standards given in the code of practice.
The detail of these two tests is as follows :

Cube Test :
Cubic shaped specimens are prepared for this test.Their size is 15 cm(6 inches) .Sometimes the specimens of 10 c(4 inches )are also.Before obtaining a specimen the kerosene oil should be pasted inside the mould so that the concrete could not stick to the mould .The the concrete prepared in the form of specimen is filled in three layer in the mould. Every layer is compacted after placing in the mould .Then it is placed on the vibrating table for two minutes.Or 25 strokes are given to it by the hand tamping Rod.This is compacted in this way.This process in repeated for the second and the third layer.This compaction should be the same which was done in the preparation of the original concrete.Then the surface of the specimen is leveled with the help of float.Then the specimen is kept at 20 degree C.for twenty four hours.The amount of humidity at this tie should be 90 % .The specimen is taken out of the olds and its curing is done in the water T 20 degree C.
Then the specimen is taken out the water after 3 days,7 days and 28 days and sent to the testing Machine for test.The specimen is placed in the machine and load is applied slowly.The rate of putting the load is 2 to 4 kg/cm square (30 to 60 lb/inch square) per second.The amount of load is noted at the time of crushing of the specimen and stress is calculated by dividing the crushing of the specimen and stress is calculated by dividing the crushing load by X-sectional area of the specimen .These stress give the strength of the specimen .This is called Ultimate Stress.To calculate this the total load at the surface of specimen is divided by X section .At least 3 specimen are tested time .Then their average is calculated which is then considered as the actual strength of the concrete.
CYLINDER TEST (COMPRESSION TEST OF CONCRETE.
Cylindrical shaped specimen are prepared for this test.The size of the specimen is like the one that its diameter is 15 cm ( 6 inches). while its length is 30 cm (12 inches).Steel or Cost Iron moulds are used to prepare specimen.In addition to this plastic and metal moulds are moulds are used these days..Such modulus can be used only once.They becomes useless afterwards.The modulus should be of standard size only.Before the preparation of specimen .the moulds should be applied kerosene oil from inside.so that concrete may not stick the mould .Then the prepared concrete is filled in three layers in the moulds. Every layer is compacted after placing in the moulds .Then it is placed on the vibrating table for two minutes.If compacting is to be done annually then 25 strokes are given to it by the hand Tamping Rod.This process in repeated for the second and the third layer.The compaction should be the same which was done in the preparation of the original concrete work .Then the surface of the specimen is leveled with the help of Float.Then the specimen is kpt at 20 degree C for twenty four (24) hours.The amount of humidity at this time should be 90 %.The specimen is taken out of the moulds after 24 hours and its curing is done in water at 20 degree C.
Then the specimen is taken out the water after 3 days, 7 days and 28 days and sent to the Testing Machine of Test.To find the compressive strength of the cylinder ,it is placed in vertical position in the machine .The cap is placed at its upper end.The rate of applying the load is 2 to 4 kg/cm square (30 to 60 lb/inch square) per second.The amount of load is noted at the time of crushing of the specimen .This load gives the strength of the specimen.This strength per unit ares is calculated .This is called ultimate stress.To calculate this ,the total load applied is divided by the area of .About 6 specimen are tested at a tie.Then their average is calculated which is then considered as the actual strength of the concrete.The result is compiled as the entries given inthe following table
