RCC STAIRCASE DESIGN

Stairway Today i am writing about the RCC STAIRCASE DESIGN as you know that last time i published a post about the Requirement of Good Stairs, Some of my website viewers comment about to make a guide about RCC STAIRCASE DESIGN . So i make a simple and easy post about in which i explain you all about DESIGNING RCC STAIRCASE  .

RCC STAIRCASE DESIGN

The R.C.C stair constructed with reinforced cement concrete (R.C.C) consists of steps and landings. The number of steps in a flight is normally from 3 to 15 .The number of risers (vertical surfaces) is one more than the number of treads (horizontal surface).The treads and risers are set out in such a way that the pitch of the flight of stair remains between 25 to 40 degree. For this purpose the ration between the tread (T ) and the riser ( R ) is maintained as follows :


                    T * R = 400 to 430 cm ( 66 to 96 inches )

                     2T + R = 55 to 60 cm ( 23 to 27 inches )


The size of the tread is set out generally at 22.5 cm to 30 cm ( 9 to 12 inches ) and that of riser from 15 to 20 cm ( 6 to 8 inches )

There are many types of stair with respect of shape .According to design( RCC STAIRCASE DESIGN ) there are two types of the stair .Spanning horizontally stair and spanning longitudinally stair. Beams or walls are needed to support the first type of stair. Such beams are called stringer beams .If a stair consist of two parallel flights then the wall supporting them is called newel walls. For constructing such a stair every step of the stair is designed like a slab .The length of the beam is equal to the breath of the stair and the breadth of the beam is equal to

The load acting on this stair consists of load of triangular step load of its finishing waist and load of the finishing under it and the live load.
To design the second type of stair a strip of unit width is considered. The design of the stair is like that of slab .The effective span of this stair is equal to the horizontal distance between the supports of the stair . The stair is equal to the horizontal distance between the support of the stair. These supports are constructed on the lower and the upper ends.
The load for the design of the stair consists of load of triangular step load of its finishing waist and load of finishing under .Hand Rail and the load the Wight of wait and its finishing acts inclined .Its equivalent horizontal component is calculated. For this the inclined weight is multiplied by the factor,

.While the other load is already acting horizontally.
The maximum bending moment is calculated due to the load acting on the unit area. Then the thickness of waist and area of steel are calculated.

  • Design of stair spanning horizontally.
  • Design of Stair Spanning Longitudinally.
