Designing Lantren Window and Fan light

No communication through the windows is allowed , the windows are fixed in the walls in a similar manner as that of door and  such a way that top of the doors and the top of the windows remain in same level.

What is LANTERN WINDOW AND FAN LIGHT ?

1.Lantern window ;-
These windows are provided over the flat roofs to ensure more light and air to the inner rooms of a building . these windows project above the roof level  they admit light from vertical faces or inclined faces. They have many shapes In plan. Lantern windows  can be circular square rectangular and polygonal . fixed glasses are used in this type of window.


2.Fan light ;-
When it is intended to construct roof over less height , then it is difficult to build ventilator separate form the doors and windows . ventilator is built adjacently with doors and windows in order to cope with this situation . this adjacent ventilator is called fan light . it is know as fan light because admitting light occurs over the fan suspending from the roof .
Employed of fan light reduces constructional expenses because shared lintel is provided for fan light . doors and windows instead of providing separate lintel . it will save one lintel . similarly sill of ventilator is removed . panel of fixed glass is fitted into fan light . whereas movable panel of glass can be used instead.
