Scale Photography With Formula and Example

 Today i am writing about the Scale Photography as you know that last time i published a post about the Triangulation Surveying, some of my website viewers comment about to make a guide about Scale Photography . So i make a simple and easy post about Scale Photography in which i explain you all about scale photogrphic .

Scale Photography With Formula and Example

Scale Photography

The ratio between the ground distances and photograph distance is called Scale Photography for example if the horizontal distance between two points on the ground is 200 meters and their photographic distance is 20cm then the ratio of these distance will be 1:100 =20: (200 *100) . This is called the scale of this photograph .this scale changes with the changes of height of the aeroplane. That is on lowering the height of the aeroplane is lessened then the dist ace between the photographic points will increase suppose the distance between the points on the photograph is 25cm on decreasing the height of the aeroplane the ration of this scale is also called Representative fraction .This is abbreviated as R.F the photographic scale is calculated by the following
                                                             R.F. =  C
                                                                          Zm

Where
                    R.F. = Representative Scale
                   C = Principle Distance

                  Zm= Height of aeroplane from average level of ground

The value of C is generally considered equal to the focal lenght of the lens . However ,sometime there is difference in the values of C and f.

Example of Scale Photography

In a Photograph principle distance is 210 mm and the height of aeroplane from the mean level of earth is 4200 meters . Find the scale.
SOLUTION .
  Principle distance  = C = 210m
Average height =   Zm   =   4200m

 Formula we have ;
                                                Scale  =   C
                                                                Zm

                  putting the value in this formula of Principle distace (C) and Average height( Zm)

                                            Scale =     210     =         1             or    1: 20000
                                                            4200            20,000
