Advantages and Disadvantages of Reinforced Concrete ( RCC )
R.c.c is formed generally by the combination of two types of materials .of these one material is concrete while the other is steel .These two unite to act .There is less strength in concrete as compared to steel .Concrete of cheap comparatively .therefor. it is used in more quantity .whereas steel is used in limited quantity according to the requirements to reinforce the concrete.Different type of steel is used at different places .concrete is enough strong in well as tension. There fore steel is used in different structures in the two forms one is twisted steel bars and deformed steel bars.ADVANTAGES OF R.C.C (Rein force cement concrete)
The slurry formed by aggregates and cements sticks to the steel and saves the steel from rusting. The combined from of mixture of cement and aggregates can withstand any load which these two cannot do so separately the advantages of R.C.C are as follows:- It is cheap collectively.
- This is durable because it is safe from rusting and terminates.
- R.C.C offers much resistance against fire.
- R.C.C offers much rigidity to structures to a great extent.
- R.C.C offers much resistance against humidity and water absorption.
- The repair expenditure on R.C.C is nominal.
- The materials used in R.C.C are easily available.
- R.C.C structures can be made in any form and shape .
- R.C.C structure is light in weight.
- Due to its hardness it can withstand earthquake shocks.
DISADVANTAGES OF R.C.C (Rein force cement concrete)
- The disadvantage of R.C.C is negligible as compared to its advantages these are as follows :
- There is no dismantle value of an R.C.C structure also it is difficult to-do so
- Its renovation is difficult
- The drawbacks if renaming in R.C.C structure is difficult to rectify them
- Much look after is required during construction of R.C.C structure
- Its initial cost is very much .also its structure are very heavy weight
- Much quantity of wood and steel is required in its form work
- Percentage of Steel in R.C.C Works
- Different quantity of steel is used in different elements of R.C.C generally following is the quantity of steels used for different elements:
- Footing 0.5 % to 0.8 %
- Column 1.0 % to 2.0 %
- Slab 0.7 % to 1.0 %
- Bean 1.0 % to 2.0 %
GRADES OF CONCRETE
Grades of concretes are set out according to the strength of concrete the strength of concrete is found by testing it after curing the cubes of prepared concrete after 28 days this strength of concrete is known as its compression strength. The type of concrete strength according to grades is as follow.
