Reinforment concrete (R.C.C) is formed generally by the combination of two types of materials. Of these one materials is concrete while the other is steel. These two unit to act. There is less strength in concrete as compared to steel. Concrete of cheap comparatively. Therefore, it is used in more quantity. Whereas steel is used in limited quantity according to the requirements to reinforce the concrete. Different type of steel is used at different places. Concrete is enough strong in compression than in tension. While steel is strong both in compression as well as tension. Therefore, steel is used in different structures in the two forms. N addition to this steel is used in against shear, bond and flexural. Steel is used generally in round steel bars.

Suitability of steel and concrete

In Reinforcement concrete (R.C.C) works the steel which is used should be of such qualities that the materials becomes monolithic some necessary qualities of these materials are

• There should be strong bond between the two materials.
• The coefficient of thermal expansion of the two materials should be equal.
• The two materials should be strong.
• There should not be any dangerous chemical reaction between the two materials.
•  Cutting, molding, binding and welding of steel should be easy.
• Both the materials should be cheap and easily available.

All these qualities are present in the concrete and the steel to be used. Also some of their drawbacks are removed during their combination. For example the steel can be rusted but with the application of concrete cover this danger is over. In addition to this, the steel become mild at high temperature and loses its qualities. But combined with concrete the steel is saved to great extent and hold its qualities.
