Parts Of Stairs Names

Stair has different parts as follow.
Flight 
This is defined as an unbroken series of steps between landings.
Waist

waist is a inclined-slab that is below steps of flight .Load being applied over the steps convey to the waist.
Landing

it is the level platform at the top or bottom of a flight between the floors.A landing facilitates change of direction and provides an opportunity for taking rest during the use of the stair .

Flier step

Flier step is step of floor which looks rectangular from the plain.
Winders

When length of stair is short , then rounding steps are made at that  spot instead of providing landing .They are known as winders.
Step

It is a portion of stair which permits ascent or descent .IT is comprised of a tread and a riser.A stair is composed of a set of steps.


Tread 

It is upper horizontal portion of a step upon which the foot is place while ascending or descending.
Going

it is the horizontal distance between two successive riser faces .
Riser

it is the vertical portion of step providing a support to the tread.
Rise

It is the vertical distance between two successive tread faces.
Pitch

It is the angle which the line of nosing of the stair makes with the horizontal.
Soffit

It is the underside of stair .
Hand rail

It is rounded or moulded member of wood or metal following generally the contour of the nosing line , and the fixed on the top of blasters.
Baluster

It is vertical member of wood or metal supporting the hand rail.
Newel post 

Newel post is vertical member which is placed at the ends of flights to connect the ends of strings and Hand rail.
Head room

It is the minimum clear vertical distance between the tread and overhead structure i.e ceiling.
Nosing

It is the projecting  part of the tread beyond the face of the riser is usually rounded off from architectural consideration.
Stringer

These are the sloping members which support the steps in a stair .They run along the slope of the stair.
