Different Types of Slabs

Slab Today i am writing about the Types of Slabs as you know that last time i published a post about the STEEL, some of my website viewers comment about to make a guide about slab and their type. So i make a simple and easy post about in which i explain you all about Types of Slabs with diagram .

 What is slab ?

Slab is the smooth surface that intends for covering room from the above .Slab of R.C.C comes in to major types as follow.
Slabs

Different types of slabs

  • One Way Slab
  • Two Way Slab
If ration of length and width of slab is greater than 2 then it is called one Way Slab. Main bars are laid towards width of the slab is one way slab . Distribution bars are laid towards width of the slab

If the ration of length and width of slab is 2 or smaller then 2 then it is known as two Way Slab .Main bars are used in both directions of the slab i.e. length and width.concrete cover is kept around 1 to 2cm out of steel bars.

Steel bars are used in reinforced cement concrete (R.C.C) corners of these all bars are bent or hooks are formed over the ends of the steel bars.It is done to firmly fix steel bars in o concrete . standard shapes of; hooks are given in figure 7.2 nowadays modern type of steel bars are being used that have rough or grooved surface to increase resistance .These steel bars are called Deformed steel Bars. Hook is not required for this type of steel bars as their surface makes greater resistance with concrete and fix firmly in to concrete . It is required to bend up steel are for building frames of reinforced cement concrete. For this purpose steel bars must be mild .When steel bars are joined together in order to prolong them then joint is made equivalent to 30 times length of diameter of steel bar for vertical joint. For horizontal joint, joint is made equivalent to 40 times length of diameter of the steel bar.

How can you find that how much steel you need for your slab .

Standard Hook ;-

  • Ends of the steel bars are bent up in order to protect them from sliding this bend is known as HOOK. Hook has different types as follow.
  • 1. Half circular hook along with 4 times length of diameter .Additional length should be less than 7 cm ( 2 to ½ inches)
  • 2. 90 degrees Hook along with 12 times length of diameter.Additional length should be less than 7 cm (2 to ½ inches)
  • 3. 135 Degrees Hooks along with 6 times length of diameter additional length should be less than 7 cm(2 to 1/2 inches)
